A key American Pictorialist and a crucial innovator in abstract photography, Alvin Langdon Coburn is a fascinating but often neglected figure in the history of American modernism. As early as 1909, Coburn was making futuristic depictions of New York and Pittsburgh, anticipating modernist architectural photography's classic "bird's-eye" view. In 1912, in New York, working with the Cubist artist-poet Max Weber, he developed this idiom a step further, photographing New York from the pinnacles of skyscrapers. The following year he published Men of Mark, which featured portraits of authors, artists and statesmen, including�Henri Matisse,�Henry James, Mark Twain and�Theodore Roosevelt.�In 1914 Coburn relocated to London, participating in the British Vorticist movement, led by Wyndham Lewis and Ezra Pound; Coburn's series of multiple exposures and "Vortographs" were the first truly abstract photographs. So why is Coburn not better known today? After 1920 he deliberately withdrew from the photo world (though he never gave up photography) and retired to rural Wales, where he immersed himself in painting, music composition and Freemasonry. In the 1950s he was rediscovered and championed by Beaumont and Nancy Newhall of George Eastman House, to which he bequeathed almost 20,000 prints and negatives along with cameras, correspondence and ephemera. This beautiful volume, published to accompany a show at George Eastman House and drawing on a wide range of public and private collections, reveals his work and legacy for a new generation.
Alvin Langdon Coburn (1882–1966) was born in�Boston, Massachusetts, in 1882. He was given his first camera at the age of eight, and quickly developed a precocious talent for both visual composition and technical proficiency. He exhibited frequently in both America and Europe from early on in his career, and published several photobooks, including New York (1912), by which time his international reputation was at its peak (George Bernard Shaw even called him "the greatest photographer in the world"). He died in Wales in 1966.

One of the worst Business textbooks that I have seen in 40 years of Business and Teaching! Full of errors, mistakes, superficiality. This is far too great a subject to be covered effectively in one publication, and the authors (none of whom has an iota of experience in International Business) litter the text with basic misunderstandings of how international business actually works in practice. The Instructors Powerpoint slides are poor and faithfully reproduce all that is wrong in how to do Powerpoint - loads of bullet points, minimal graphics, unacknowledged sources.

This book is creative, funny, perfect in every sense. It fills your head with emotion, engulfing your sense of touch and smell.
It is perfect for those laid back days where you just lie down on your bed with a glass of red wine, with a little jazz music playing in the background. I highly recommend this book or maybe its bundle set.

In addition to the standard stuff, it covers the latest ironmongery, with instructions for adjusting and maintaining front and rear suspensions, disc brakes, and threadless headsets. The chapter on adjusting front and rear derailleurs will keep your indexed shifting working correctly. You will also know when you need a new chain and what kind to buy. Wretched Kindle version

This is one of the worst formatted Kindle books that I have come across. It's chock full of spurious paragraph breaks, runtogetherwordslikethis, and text that changes color from black to red to black again seemingly at random. The figure titles are not associated with the figures, the initial letters of chapter openings are on a line of their own, and this is just in the sample. The printed version is probably great, but the Kindle version is awful, and looks like nobody at the publisher checked at it at all.

Easiest repair manual to read

I have this manual, in addition to the Park Blue Book and Zinn Road Bike Maintenance Book and Falcon Guide. This text is the easiest to follow and best illustrated, thus giving it 5 stars. It is also the least comprehensive, leaving out discussions on the variety of parts that one might encounter, such as delving into the nuances of Campagnolo components. Still, it offers the fundamentals of bike repair in a clear fashion, making it a superb starter book for learning bicycle repair.

Great book but no cd use

I bought this book thinking it came with a cd/access code full of usefull information and videos. Unfortunatly you can only use the disk or access code if you are in a class that gives you a class code. Which means all those useful test, videos, useful information, ect you cant use. The book itself is very good and informative. It is very clear and has great pictures.

I received this textbook and was shocked at the weight of the package. I thought it must be a pack deal of a book (a manual for lab and a manual textbook) but was very wrong. This book is near four inches thick and weighs 10lbs. The weight is burdensome. The content however makes up for it. Looking through the contents you have everything included that you would need for MULTIPLE automotive courses. Where was this textbook 7 years ago when I began college???? It covers braking systems, electrical systems, suspension, steering, (touches on) hybrid vehicles, and more! This takes up for the 4 books I had to use for several courses. For that reason it's worth it's weight! Plus had it been around I would have saved some money; cheaper to buy this than the several other textbooks required at the time.

Prepares acceptably for ASE Exams

For students without experience this book is great. There may be some negative reviews regarding this text however I have never been under the hood of a car, working professionally, before I started an apprenticeship program and this book has greatly assisted in my studies. If you want to learn more about vehicles as a DIYer and have the patience and discipline to read the book and not just specific chapters then you will ultimately have a far better understanding of vehicle repair. This text does not encompass everything about vehicle repair but it does a significantly exceptional job regarding informing students about automotive systems. I also can say I have used the text to prepare myself for ASE exams with successful results. As ONE text in an education program this is a great foundation.

Heartwarming and Insightful.

First published in 1955, The Sweet Flypaper of Life, is a deft depiction of life in Harlem as seen through the eyes of Sister Mary Bradley.

Sympatheyically juxtaposed with stunning black & white photographs captured by master photographer Roy DeCarava, and astute text written by renowned poet Langston Hughes, it adroitly conveys the struggles, triumphs, and relationships of every day black people.

The marriage of these two genres birthed a photo-story that has reached lengedary status amongst both photographers and poets alike. Being a first of its time collaboration, DeCarava and Hughes, elite masters of their craft, unapologetically affirmed a gentler side of Harlem life of which was scarcely or never before documented.

Wonderful photos and a beautiful story

This collaborative book between Hughes and De Carava is small and wonderful. The story by Hughes is a gentle tale of one woman's life in Harlem in 1955. It is richly illustrated with the beautiful photographs of Harlem family life by De Carava.
