Innovative clarity on a sacred journey

As a teaching Reiki Master for over 14 years I love the simplicity and clarity that Dr. Shipon brings to the topic of sharing Reiki. He gets to the heart of the matter. The extraneous history, mythology and controversial competitions of recent years are left out or boiled down to the very essence of this sacred and spiritual healing tradition and topic. The book is excellent for the beginner practitioner and and can be powerful for those who merely are curious. The advanced practitioner will notice there are some breaks in tradition. For example the Reiki symbols are included and the experience of attunement by the in-person Reiki Master is made optional by offering another approach and process.

In my opinion this small spare book beautifully shares one soul's journey using Reiki as a guide and support. Because of his professional training it is clean and clear and very human. REIKI PSYCHOLOGY doesn't waste time and I believe the notes it hits are resonant in today's world. Reiki is made professional, personal and relevant in this book.

Truly a Work of Art!

For me, Reiki Psychology is truly a watershed book that is nothing less than a work of art. Like the author, I am a Reiki Master and a licensed psychotherapist. I am also a college professor who has taught courses in Energy Medicine to medical students. For 30 years I have been a student and a practitioner of the healing arts ranging from shamanism to Qigong. In all my experience and all my research, I have never come across anything so simple and so powerful with such potential to heal not only one's physical and mental states but to heal our species and the planet as well.

To limit this book to psychology is like saying The Field of Dreams is about baseball. Dr. Shipon has created a clear, compassionate, concise (at a little over 100 pages) and accessible guide not only to a healthy psychology but a healthy life. I can think of only a handful of books that I have read that have achieved such authenticity and elegance. I will be ordering copies for all of my loved ones and friends.

All true artists recognize that they are not the source of their "creations." Something loving and beautiful has truly emerged through this author and his life. For this I am deeply grateful.

I found this book to be amazing. Having no prior experience with Reiki, I was not sure what to expect, but Dr. Shipon explains the concept of Reiki Psychology in a straightforward and customizable manner that can offer immediate benefits in terms of relaxation techniques and general outlook to anyone with an open mind. I highly recommend!

Yummy guide to Portugal

I've been thinking for a while about visiting Portugal. In particular, the wine region of the Douro Valley. But the general travel guides I've looked at haven't really given me a good sense of how to plan the trip I want to take. As wine is part of the attraction for me, this guide looked interesting.

Not surprisingly, this book has a lot to say about the food and wine of Portugal. But it also gives a good sense of place, the lay of the land, and the landscape and culture to expect. The charm of the country comes through. On the other hand, the authors are honest when a town isn't all that charming, and tell you not to expect much from it.

It should be noted that this book is physically bigger than a typical travel guide, and more for planning a trip than sticking in your pocket for instant reference. I've also spent more time with the Douro Valley section than with other parts of the book, but the whole book seems to have the same flavor and attention to details.

This book has given me what I was looking for.

I wish I had this sooner!!

This book should be given to ALL pregnant ladies! I have twin girls who were born 7 weeks early. I had gotten into the habit of nursing them to sleep and CONSTANTLY holding them, which worked until they started gaining weight. I knew I wanted to sleep train them, but our doctor said "No, they don't weigh enough" (at 11lbs). I didn't intend on ferberizing them. Then 2 other twin moms suggested this book. I followed it, and in 3 days I went from being a human pacifier with a bad back to a lady who has time to write a review, AND shave my legs! I like that I can sleep train without crying it out. My girls are 5 months, but I wish I had this from day 1! Buy this for all of your friends. This book, a bottle of wine, and a gift card for coffee.

This book is a must for anyone who cares for newborns!

I work as a postpartum doula (aka 'Baby Nurse'). This book is my textbook and I recommend it to all my mommas and have used its principles for the babies with consistent success. In a nutshell, Tracy Hogg's recommend a simple routine that begins with eating, followed by activity (playtime), and then nap. This routine is repeated every 2-4 hrs. You will know what baby is crying for if she is on a routine and you know that since you just fed her, what she is crying for is not more food, but probably sleep!

Tracy's mantra is 'Start as you mean to go on.' If you want your 8 month old baby to sleep only in mommas arms, do it when they're 1 wk old! But if you want to be able to lay baby down in the crib and leave him to peacefully fall asleep for naps and bedtime, you've got to get them used to doing it from the beginning.

There's no crying-it-out or heartless rigid schedules, but neither is there a 'baby's running the show' and momma's surviving on 2 hrs of sleep at night. When it's bedtime for baby, Tracy recommends a simple technique called 'Pick-up-put-down', where whenever baby cries, you pick her up only until she stops crying, then put her back in bed immediately. After doing this enough times, baby gets tired and falls asleep. In just a few days of doing this consistently, baby need less and less of this, until she is contentedly soothing herself to sleep in her own crib.

I will say, not only does this stuff make sense, it works. And for me, it pays! People will pay $200 a day to have me stay in their home and sleep train their baby! (Of course they could just buy the 1 cent book off Amazon and read and follow it themselves... But some people can afford to pay someone to help, and I'm happy they hire me!)

One baby I helped was a 7 month old, breastfeeding baby boy. He was nursing on demand, sleeping only 20 min max at a time during the day. During the night he was up 4-7 times in an 8 hr period of time. His momma was ragged and exhausted as she tried to satisfy his needs while keeping up with a 3 yr old and helping with the family business as well. He was a chubby 21 lb bundle of smiles, so there was not an issue of hunger going on. He just didn't know how to self soothe himself to sleep. He knew only how to nurse himself to sleep. Then the slightest disturbance would wake him back up and he didn't know how to drift back to sleep. Well, using the pick-up-put-down methods to put him back down in bed, combined with a good routine as outlined by Tracy Hogg, by the end of a week, this little guy was taking 1 long nap (2.5 hrs) and 2 shorter 45 min- 1 hr naps during the day and sleeping a solid 11 hrs at night! And he was so much happier--no more fussy, fussy. And he had a rested, happy momma.

Baby Now Refusing Bottle, Mother Now Lacking Confidence

I wasn't really having much trouble with my 2 month old son (he has been an easy baby who sleeps 6 hours straight and then another 4), but I bought this book on a recommendation from a friend. I liked the parts about reading your baby's cues. However, after reading it, I found myself second-guessing everything I did for him and losing all the confidence had built up caring for him as a first-time mom.

I breastfeed him and I tried spacing out his feedings to every 3 hours like she recommends and giving him the pacifier in between to comfort him. Now he hates the binky and won't take it anymore, even when he's calm. Worse yet, my husband tried to give him a bottle of pumped milk (which he has been taking 3-4 times a week for a month now) and he screamed like we were going to kill him. I think he hates plastic nipples now causes he associates them with going hungry. I have to go back to work in 3 weeks and I don't know what to do now.

My suggestion? Throw away your parenting strategy books, buy a good medical/development guide (I like Mayo Clinic's), and trust your instincts.

Great read!

I got this book through the Kindle First program, and it was a great choice. This book is suspenseful and well-written. I genuinely had a hard time putting it down. I didn't think it was the kind of "edge-of-your-seat" book that some thrillers are -- rather, it has a great plot line, and will keep you trying to figure things out.

Perhaps what I most liked about this book is that I didn't know what was going to happen, and how the story would turn out. To me, when you can't predict the story line, you're reading a great book!

it better be a darn good one from page one

Although I am an avid reader, fiction is rarely on my list. Being business-minded I spend quite a bit more time there than here. I say that only because when I choose a novel to read, it better be a darn good one from page one, or I'm gone and on to something else. I wasn't disappointed. (unless you count not being able to finish it in one sitting (damn work!)) It took very little time to connect with the characters, to feel like they are people you know, or could know; to become part of the community of Hardy's Walk and feel as though you grew up there. While this isn't suspenseful like a murder-mystery would be, you still knew you were in for a ride. Crooked Little Lies is a page turner and as with all of Sissel's novels, brings to light how easy it is to take wrong turns, to think that just this one thing won't lead to the next or the next or the next, and to suddenly have massive upheaval in your life wishing you could turn back time just once. Thought provoking as usual and a reminder that we are all human, we all make mistakes and we all have a choice. An easy read, well written, with developed characters you identify with immediately, this book is a great read across the board.

Loved this new book by Barbara Taylor Sissel!!! It definitely did not disappoint. I was so immersed in the story, and it was written so well, that a I actually felt I was there and surrounded by the twists and turns that keep you guessing right to the very end. Bravo Barbara for another page turner. And thank you for making my flights seem like only minutes. Can't wait for the next one

great version, except for the uniforms

I'm not a Boyscout, but I picked this up at the library and liked it so much I had to get my own copy. Courious about the different versions of this handbook I did some research. This version (1990, 10th edition) shows the scouts in their "alternate"/expensive uniforms as opposed to the traditional ones.

Some items this edition includes, but NOT in at least one of the later ones, are:
-Making a fire without matches
-Rowing, canoeing, sailing, etc
-International Morse code
-Semaphore signaling
-Scout silent signals
-Stars
-Weather
-Edible wild plants
-Wildlife/plant habitats

Like finding an old friend

I used this book when I was in the scouts. Being young I failed to see the book for what it is and abused mine and lost it over time. I found this one and it was like getting and old friend back. Very happy with the book and its in near perfect condition.

I used this book for several sociology courses, women studies courses and public health courses. There's so much information that spans across many fields of academia. It's well written, making it very easy to understand the concepts that are introduced. It's a great reference to have around.

Not like a textbook...

Smooth read...greatly enlightened me on the very brutal patriarchal system that is existing in many governments and societies around the globe. Even if you're not a college student, I would suggest you read this. Burn did a spectacular job at developing an impeccable flow throughout this work.
